The KP government has announced financial support for families displaced by the ongoing military operation in Bajaur. KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur confirmed the aid package in a recent statement.
Each displaced family will receive Rs50,000 initially. Once the operation concludes, they will get an additional Rs25,000. Gandapur emphasized that while the KP government does not support the operation or forced displacement, it is responsible for helping affected people.
The military has launched an operation against nearly 800 militants in Bajaur district. This area has a population of about 300,000 people. Due to the operation, more than 40,000 residents have been forced to leave their homes.
Officials report that around 300 militants remain in Mamond tehsil, while over 350 militants are active in Khyber. Most militants, about 80 percent, are Afghan nationals.
Local peace efforts failed when a jirga between elders and militants did not meet its demands. The militants refused to vacate the area, prompting further action.
The KP government has arranged shelter for the displaced families. Commissioner Malakand Division Abid Wazir said that 107 government buildings in Khar are being used as temporary housing. A tent village is also being set up at the Khar Sports Complex.
The KP authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide aid to those affected by the conflict in Bajaur. The government urges peace and stability in the region while supporting displaced families.
