The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will auction large parcels of land today, Monday, linked to a £190 million reference against Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and others. This auction involves properties owned by Bahria Town.
According to NAB Rawalpindi, the auction includes 248 kanals and 8 marlas of land on Club Road, Islamabad, and another 405 kanals and 3 marlas in Mohra Noor village. These properties were previously frozen by the authorities.
Bahria Town had requested the Supreme Court to halt the auction, but the plea was rejected. Justice Aminuddin dismissed the stay request and ordered the submission of references against Bahria Town’s owner Malik Riaz and the housing society. The court scheduled hearings on all related petitions for August 13.
Earlier, on August 5, the Islamabad High Court also refused to stop the auction, allowing NAB to continue with the sale of Bahria Town’s assets. This decision followed previous auctions where three out of six commercial properties were sold to recover outstanding plea bargain amounts.
One notable sale included the Rubaish Marquee, which was sold for Rs508 million—Rs20 million more than the minimum price. Conditional bids worth Rs876 million and Rs881.5 million were also received for two corporate offices, pending final approval.
NAB explained that the auction aims to recover the remaining money Bahria Town owes under the court-approved plea bargain. Some properties that did not receive satisfactory bids earlier will be re-auctioned.
Proceeds from the already sold properties are currently being transferred to NAB accounts. The auction process marks an important step in NAB’s efforts to enforce accountability and recover public money.
