Three Killed, Six Injured in South Waziristan Blast Targeting Police Van

WANA: At least three people lost their lives, and six others were injured in a deadly South Waziristan blast on Wednesday. The explosion took place in the busy Wana Bazar area and targeted a police van.

According to a police spokesperson, the blast killed three bystanders. Among the six injured was a police officer. The injured were quickly shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Initial reports suggest that the explosion was a deliberate attack. However, the exact nature of the explosive is still under investigation. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

This incident follows another deadly blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last month. On July 2, five people, including Assistant Commissioner Nawagai Faisal Ismail, died in a bomb attack in Bajaur’s Phatak Mela area. A remote-controlled device targeted the officer’s vehicle near the Mela Ground.

Among the victims in the Bajaur attack were Tehsildar Abdul Wakeel, two police officers, and a passerby. Eleven others, including five policemen, were injured. Rescue teams responded quickly, and all the injured were transported to nearby medical facilities.

Police believe the Bajaur explosion was a targeted strike using a planted bomb. Investigations are still ongoing to confirm details in both cases.

The two attacks have raised concerns about the safety of security officials and civilians in the tribal districts. Officials have vowed to improve security measures and bring those responsible to justice.

Both incidents reflect a worrying rise in militant activities in Pakistan’s northwestern region, where law enforcement remains a frequent target.
