Babusar Top Missing Tourist Family Identified After Flash Flood Tragedy

DIAMER – A tourist family swept away by flash floods at Babusar Top has been officially identified, local authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Identification documents recovered from the scene revealed the victims as Shabana Liaquat, a television anchor from a private news channel, her husband Liaquat, and their four children. The family, residents of Nowshera, had been reported missing after their vehicle was carried away by strong floodwaters in the area.

The incident occurred on July 22, 2025, when sudden flash floods hit parts of Babusar Road. At least 15 individuals were swept away by the powerful current. So far, seven bodies have been found. Authorities say that seven people, including members of the identified family, are still missing.

Local residents and rescue teams recovered a car and other belongings from the affected area, which helped confirm the identities of the victims. The discovery has brought clarity but also deep sorrow to the ongoing tragedy.

The Deputy Commissioner of Diamer stated that efforts are continuing to locate the remaining missing individuals. The district administration has intensified its search and rescue operation. Sniffer dogs and drones have been deployed to navigate the difficult terrain and locate any signs of survivors or further victims.
