Rubio Lauds Pakistan’s Positive Role in Global, Regional Peace

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Pakistan’s efforts in promoting peace during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in Washington. This was their first in-person meeting, following earlier phone discussions.
Rubio acknowledged Pakistan’s key contributions in the fight against terrorism. He said,
“Pakistan has always played a positive role in global and regional peace.”

Ishaq Dar, who also serves as Foreign Minister, said both countries aim to strengthen their longstanding ties. He highlighted the progress in ongoing trade talks and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in various sectors.
The two sides discussed enhancing economic and trade ties. Talks covered investment, agriculture, technology, minerals, and counter-terrorism. Dar also praised US support during recent Pakistan-India tensions, especially President Trump’s role in easing the situation.
He described Pakistan as a strong business opportunity for American investors. “There is harmony in the interests of both countries regarding regional peace,” Dar noted.
Senior officials from both nations joined the delegation-level talks. Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, was also present.
Rubio’s remarks, “Rubio lauds Pakistan’s positive role in global, regional peace,” reflect a clear appreciation of Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts and sacrifices.
Dar said the Pakistani diaspora in the US is a key link between the two nations. Both leaders agreed to work closely in international forums, including the UN Security Council.
In a post on X, Dar said they reaffirmed commitment to long-term Pakistan-US partnership. He highlighted areas of focus such as trade, investment, IT, AI, and security cooperation.
The meeting marked a positive step in reviving strong ties between Washington and Islamabad, emphasizing mutual respect and shared goals.
