The Congress party has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify publicly after U.S. President Donald Trump claimed five fighter jets were downed during the recent military clash between India and Pakistan.

Trump, speaking at a White House dinner with Republican lawmakers, said, “Planes were being shot out of the air. Five, five, four or five, but I think five jets were shot down,” referring to the recent India-Pakistan hostilities. He did not indicate which country lost the aircraft.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the Prime Minister online, demanding clarity: “Modi ji, what is the truth about the five jets? The nation demands to know!”

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also called on Modi to address Parliament directly, citing international embarrassment.

The conflict erupted after a deadly attack in Pahalgam, in Indian-administered Kashmir, killed 26 people. India blamed Pakistan, prompting retaliatory strikes. In response, Pakistan launched air operations and claimed it downed six Indian jets.

President Trump later took credit on social media for brokering a ceasefire and calming tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
