Beijing, July 14, 2025 —
Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, met Chinese President Xi Jinping during the ongoing SCO summit in Beijing.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of a joint session with the foreign ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states. The session was held under China’s presidency and focused on boosting regional cooperation.
President Xi welcomed the delegates and stressed the importance of multilateralism and collective security. He highlighted the SCO’s role in promoting peace across the Eurasian region.
The SCO summit this year follows the theme, “Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO in Action.” Discussions focused on regional security, economic growth, and fighting terrorism.
Ishaq Dar is leading Pakistan’s delegation at the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Tianjin. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for all SCO-led efforts aimed at peace and development.
Upon arrival in Beijing, Mr. Dar was received by senior Chinese officials and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalilur Rehman Hashmi.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Mr. Dar emphasized the importance of regional connectivity and economic integration. He said Pakistan remains committed to the goals of the SCO summit.
Separately, Mr. Dar held a phone call with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. They discussed Pakistan’s presidency of the UN Security Council and upcoming initiatives for peace and diplomacy.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, formed in 2001, includes 10 member states. It also houses a key security body, the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure (RATS).
