Pakistan’s renowned wrestler Muhammad Inam Butt has officially been elected Secretary of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) for the 2025–2029 term, marking a significant transition from athlete to administrator.
The elections, conducted at the Pakistan Olympic House in Lahore, also saw Arshad Sattar assume the role of PWF President. This new leadership team is expected to bring renewed direction and energy to the sport.

Inam Butt, a highly decorated freestyle wrestler with two Commonwealth Games golds and two South Asian Games titles, is taking on his first administrative role in national wrestling. His appointment is being viewed as a major step forward for the sport in Pakistan.
“This is a turning point,” said Arshad Sattar. “Inam brings unmatched experience and insight into the challenges faced by our wrestlers.”
At 36, Inam Butt says he remains committed to competing in selective international tournaments but will now shift more focus to improving the sport’s infrastructure and support systems.
“I want to dedicate time to this position,” he said. “We need grassroots development and better support for elite athletes, and this role allows me to contribute meaningfully.”
Even before this appointment, Inam had been active in athlete advocacy, serving as Chair of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Athletes’ Commission, a role he assumed unopposed.
Inam’s legacy in wrestling is well established. He rose to fame in 2010 by winning Commonwealth Games gold in the 84kg freestyle category in New Delhi against India’s Anuj Kumar. He repeated the feat in 2018 at the Gold Coast, this time in the 86kg class.
With Inam now in a leadership position while still competing occasionally, many believe the PWF is poised for a period of significant progress. His presence could bridge the gap between athletes and administrators, providing a unique edge to the sport’s future development in Pakistan.
