Interior Minister Naqvi has strongly denied rumors suggesting that Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir intends to become the president of Pakistan. He called the speculation “completely baseless” and said it was harmful to national unity.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Naqvi condemned what he described as a “negative campaign” targeting key national leaders. These include President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the army chief. He said the rumors were being spread by hostile elements and foreign agencies to create confusion and disrupt political stability.
Naqvi emphasized that there is no truth to reports of President Zardari resigning or General Munir seeking any political position. “The Chief of Army Staff has no political ambitions. His only goal is to strengthen Pakistan and maintain stability,” he said.
He also highlighted the strong relationship between civilian and military leadership. “There is deep mutual respect and trust between the president and the army chief. This relationship cannot be shaken by false claims,” Naqvi added.
When asked earlier by a journalist about the alleged removal of President Zardari, Naqvi responded clearly: “No such discussion is taking place at any level.”
He stressed that the government is fully aware of who is behind these narratives, why they are being circulated, and who benefits from them.
“Let them do what they want. We will continue working to make Pakistan stronger, InshaAllah,” Naqvi concluded.
