KP Police Deploy Drone-Jamming Technology During Ashura for First Time

In a first, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police used drone-jamming technology during Ashura processions in Peshawar to boost security.

According to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qasim Khan, the advanced system was introduced as part of a broader safety plan for Yaum-i-Ashura. The technology aims to prevent the use of drones for any suspicious or harmful activity during large public gatherings.

“A drone-jamming gun was used for the first time during the Ashura procession,” CCPO Khan confirmed. He added that the Anti-Drone System in Peshawar can effectively disable drones within a range of up to three kilometers.

This move comes in response to growing threats involving drones in KP’s southern areas. Security officials have raised concerns about the use of drones by terrorists for surveillance or attacks. The new system allows police to quickly detect and block such threats.

The use of drone technology has increased in recent years, prompting law enforcement to adopt countermeasures. KP police’s decision to use anti-drone tools during a major religious event reflects a shift in modern policing and crowd safety techniques.

The Ashura processions across the country concluded peacefully. A total of 4,836 processions and 5,480 majalis were held in various cities. In Peshawar alone, 12 processions took place under tight security.

Thousands of police officers were deployed nationwide, including snipers, bomb disposal squads, and rescue teams. Their presence helped ensure the smooth conduct of Ashura activities without any major incidents.

The successful use of drone-jamming technology sets a precedent for future events. It shows that KP police are ready to adopt modern tools to protect citizens and maintain public safety. With drone threats on the rise, such proactive measures could soon become a regular part of security planning in Pakistan.

The peaceful conclusion of Ashura processions nationwide highlighted improved security measures. In contrast, health sector negligence made headlines as the Health CEO and Hospital MS were arrested after the deaths of 20 children in Pakpattan, raising serious concerns over medical oversight.
