Federal Government Sets July 31 Deadline to Shut Down Utility Stores Corporation
The federal government has officially set July 31, 2025, as the final deadline to shut down the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) following directives issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
As part of the transition plan, a Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) will be offered to all USC employees. Loss-making outlets will be permanently closed, while profitable stores are slated for privatization.

The move comes after a final high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on June 28. The Privatization Commission has been tasked with overseeing the entire closure and transfer process and is expected to provide procedural updates directly to the Prime Minister.
