Dust Storms, Thunderstorms, and Rain Expected in Parts of Sindh

Karachi, June 16, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted dust storms, thunderstorms, and rain with lightning in several areas of Sindh, including Karachi, as unstable weather conditions persist in southern Pakistan.

Weather Forecast for Sindh

According to the PMD advisory, partly cloudy weather with dust storms, thunderstorms, and scattered rain is expected in:

  • Mithi, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Mirpurkhas
  • Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur
  • Dadu, Sukkur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Shikarpur

These weather conditions are likely to begin on Monday evening and continue into Tuesday due to moist winds from the Arabian Sea and a westerly wave affecting central Pakistan.

Karachi’s Weather Update

  • Maximum Temperature: 37–39°C
  • Humidity: Up to 73%
  • Conditions: Warm and humid, with temperatures already exceeding 36°C in the morning.

PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir Zaigham stated that light to moderate rain with thunder is possible in Karachi’s outskirts from afternoon to evening. Dusty winds may accompany the rain, causing further weather disruptions.

Further Rainfall Expected

On Tuesday, rain-bearing clouds may form near Karachi’s suburban areas, with rainfall expected in:

  • Jamshoro, Thatta, Sujawal

Meanwhile, interior Sindh districts like Dadu and Jacobabad could see temperatures soaring above 44°C. The mix of extreme heat, humidity, and storm activity may lead to strong gusts, heavy rain, and lightning in affected regions.

Weather Across Pakistan

On Sunday, most parts of the country experienced hot and dry weather, with very high temperatures in the plains. However, isolated dust storms, thunderstorms, and rain were reported in:

  • Central & Southern Punjab (Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh)
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Dera Ismail Khan, Lower Dir, Malam Jabba, Kalam)
  • Gilgit-Baltistan

Record-Breaking Heat:

  • Noorpur Thal & Turbat: 48°C
  • Jhelum & Bhakkar: 46°C
  • Jacobabad, Sibbi, Joharabad: 45°C

Precautionary Measures

The Met Office has warned that strong winds could damage:

  • Electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels
    Residents in low-lying or open areas are advised to:
  • Stay alert
  • Secure loose objects
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during storms

The weather is expected to stabilize by Wednesday, with a return to hot and dry conditions.
