Punjab Orders Closure of All Theatres for Muharram

The Punjab Arts Council has announced the closure of all theatres across the province from 1st to 13th Muharram-ul-Haram in observance of the sacred Islamic month.

According to an official notification, no stage dramas, theatrical productions, or cultural performances will be allowed during the period. Theatre operators have been directed to ensure full compliance with the government’s instructions.

Officials said the decision has been taken to uphold the sanctity of Muharram and respect the religious sentiments associated with the month.

Meanwhile, authorities across Pakistan are finalizing security arrangements ahead of Youm-e-Ashura. Provincial governments and district administrations are reviewing procession routes and majalis plans to ensure smooth and secure religious gatherings.

Law enforcement agencies have also begun deploying personnel at sensitive locations, while additional security measures are being introduced to maintain public safety.

Authorities stated that comprehensive emergency and contingency plans will remain in place throughout Muharram to preserve law and order and provide a peaceful environment for mourners and participants.
