A major facilitation has been introduced for citizens applying for driving licenses in Lahore, as residents can now obtain medical fitness certificates free of charge from government hospitals. The document is required for certain categories of driving licenses, officials said.
According to the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore, free medical fitness certificate centers have been established in 13 government hospitals across the city in the initial phase. The move aims to make the licensing process more accessible and reduce financial burden on applicants.
Special medical counters have been set up at multiple public healthcare facilities, including DHQ Mian Mir Hospital, Mozang Hospital, General Hospital Ghaziabad, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Sabzazar, Government Hospital Samanabad, Qila Gujjar Singh Hospital, Shahdara Hospital, Bilal Ganj Hospital, Sodiwal Hospital, Kahna Hospital, Raiwind Hospital, and Swami Nagar Hospital, along with other designated government hospitals.
Authorities stated that the service is particularly required for applicants seeking commercial driving licenses and individuals above 50 years of age who are applying for or renewing their driving licenses. These categories must provide proof of medical fitness before approval.
To prevent forgery and misuse, officials are also introducing a digital verification system for medical certificates. The online verification process is expected to improve transparency, enhance accountability, and eliminate fraudulent documentation in the licensing system.
Officials added that the initiative is designed to make the driving license process more efficient, transparent, and citizen-friendly. It also ensures that only medically fit individuals are allowed to operate vehicles on roads, improving overall road safety standards.
