Massive Polio Drive Set to Vaccinate 7.7 Million Children in South Punjab

A large-scale polio vaccination campaign targeting over 7.7 million children under the age of five will begin on May 26 across 11 districts of South Punjab. The initiative also includes the distribution of Vitamin A capsules to promote physical and mental development among children.

According to the Department of Health and Population South Punjab, the campaign will span 42 tehsils and 933 union councils, with comprehensive arrangements finalized to ensure smooth execution. A total of 31,370 teams will be deployed, including 28,837 mobile teams, 1,524 fixed teams, and 1,010 transit teams.

The effort is being closely monitored under the direction of Special Secretary Muhammad Shehbaz Hussain, with district-level officers assigned to supervise implementation. In a public message, the Special Secretary appealed to parents to cooperate fully and welcome health workers.

Officials emphasised that this campaign is a vital step toward eliminating polio and improving child health outcomes across the region. The coordinated effort is expected to significantly boost immunity levels and prevent future outbreaks.
