Pakistan Passes Navy Amendment Bill to Boost Security and Discipline

In a move to bolster national security and ensure strict operational conduct, Pakistan’s National Assembly has passed the Navy Amendment Bill, introducing sweeping reforms in the Pakistan Navy’s recruitment and conduct policies.

The legislation bans foreign nationals and dual citizens from receiving commissions in the Navy and sets 18 as the minimum age for induction. This aims to eliminate potential vulnerabilities and ensure loyalty within the naval ranks.

A key clause enforces a two-year political activity ban on retired Navy personnel, with up to two years’ imprisonment for violations. The bill also prescribes up to 14 years in jail for leaking classified information and imposes heavy penalties for corruption and online defamation of Navy officers.

Other provisions empower the Navy to retain personnel until the age of 60 during wartime and emergencies, while also expanding their role in disaster relief and national development. Past naval rules and regulations have been granted legal cover and cannot be challenged in court.
