An assistant professor at Islamia College University has been dismissed after harassment allegations were confirmed through an internal investigation. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi announced the dismissal on social media, stating the action followed a formal complaint by a student against the Islamiat lecturer.

The university’s inquiry committee conducted a detailed probe, and the syndicate endorsed the findings, leading to the teacher’s termination. Afridi praised the university’s swift and just response, reinforcing that K-P has a strict zero-tolerance policy on harassment, with no leniency for violators.

He highlighted that anti-harassment laws and forums in the province are fully functional, ensuring timely action. Several offenders have already faced dismissal, and legal proceedings are underway.

Afridi added that universities receive ongoing directives to maintain a harassment-free environment for both students and faculty. He reiterated that any form of harassment is unacceptable and punishable by law.

Referencing recent incidents, Afridi mentioned legal action taken at the University of Malakand and Women’s University Mardan. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to secure educational spaces, emphasizing the importance of fear-free academic and professional environments.

Previously, in February, public outcry led to an investigation into a University of Malakand lecturer. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur formed an inquiry committee, supported by local authorities. The accused, Professor Abdul Haseeb, was arrested, and his phone—reportedly containing inappropriate videos of students—was confiscated.
