The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has completed the interview process for its next president.
Nine candidates appeared before a selection panel as part of the appointment process. The panel was headed by the Federal Minister for Finance.
According to sources, the government is expected to finalize the new NBP president later this week.
The final appointment will remain subject to approval from the federal cabinet. The government will consider recommendations from the interview panel before making its decision.
Among the candidates interviewed were Ali Muhammad Mahoon, Farrukh Iqbal, and Rehmat Ali Hasni.
Other candidates included Hassan Raza, Muhammad Abdullah, and Shehram Raza. Mudassar Khan, Zafar Masud, and Imran Sarwar also appeared before the panel.
The interviews formed an important part of the government’s selection process. Officials will now review the candidates and the panel’s recommendations.
The selected candidate will need to complete the required approval process. The federal cabinet will have to approve the appointment before it becomes final.
NBP President’s Term Ends
The selection process comes after the end of the current president’s term.
Rehmat Ali Hasni completed his three-year term as NBP president on August 6. However, the federal government has granted him a temporary extension.
The extension will last for two weeks. It is intended to maintain continuity while the government completes the appointment process.
Hasni was also among the candidates interviewed for the position. His inclusion means the current president was considered alongside other candidates.
The temporary extension will allow NBP to continue operating under existing leadership. It also provides the government additional time to complete the selection.
Sources said the government will select the new president after reviewing the panel’s recommendations. The final decision will then move through the required approval stages.
The NBP president holds a key leadership position at the state-owned bank. The appointment is therefore subject to a formal government process.
The nine candidates have now completed their interviews. The next stage will involve assessing their suitability for the position.
The government is expected to make the decision later this week. However, the final appointment will depend on federal cabinet approval.
The process is aimed at ensuring a smooth leadership transition at NBP. The two-week extension for Hasni is intended to prevent any disruption.
The new president will take charge after the appointment receives all required approvals. Until then, Hasni will continue serving under the temporary extension.
The government has not yet officially announced the selected candidate. Sources indicate that the decision is expected soon.
The completion of interviews marks a major step in the appointment process. The government can now move toward selecting the candidate recommended by the panel.
The NBP leadership change comes at an important time for the state-owned financial institution. The incoming president will be responsible for leading the bank after the transition.
For now, the government is reviewing the candidates who appeared before the selection panel. The federal cabinet will make the final approval after the recommendation process.
