Imran Khan Seeks Parole Amid Security Concerns

A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court requesting the parole-based release of Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), citing significant security threats. The petition, submitted by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, claims that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi considers Khan his greatest rival and may target him with a drone strike while he remains incarcerated in Adiala Jail.

The petition highlights that, given India’s recent drone attacks across several cities, Khan’s life is at serious risk in prison. It further underscores that during his tenure as Prime Minister, Khan made global efforts to expose Modi, which allegedly caused significant embarrassment to the Indian leader.

In addition to the security concerns, the plea argues that Khan’s prolonged imprisonment in politically motivated cases violates his fundamental rights. It points out that parole is allowed when a prisoner’s health or safety is at risk, and notes that Khan’s conduct in prison has been exemplary, with no violations of prison rules.

Despite a formal request to the Punjab Home Department for parole, no action has been taken, prompting the petition to seek the court’s intervention. It calls on the Islamabad High Court to grant parole in light of these pressing concerns.
