At least five people lost their lives and two others sustained critical injuries after a helicopter crashed near Ganganani in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Thursday, officials confirmed. Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey stated that the helicopter was carrying six passengers along with the pilot when it went down near the Bhagirathi River, in the border region of Uttarkashi. The wreckage, seen in visuals from the crash site, showed the chopper completely mangled, highlighting the force of the impact.
Rescue operations were swiftly launched, with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the district administration arriving quickly at the scene. “As soon as information about the accident was received, relief and rescue teams were rushed to the site to assist in operations and provide medical assistance,” Pandey noted.

The injured were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care. The cause of the crash is not yet known, and authorities have initiated an investigation.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and assured that all possible assistance is being extended to the victims. “SDRF and district administration teams have immediately reached the spot for relief and rescue work. I have instructed the administration to provide all possible help to the injured and investigate the accident,” he said.
