US Pushes For Calm As India-Pakistan Tensions Rise

Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam attack, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is preparing to engage with senior officials from both countries in a bid to defuse the situation. The US State Department confirmed that Rubio will speak with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar within the next 24 hours.

State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce stated that Washington is urging both New Delhi and Islamabad to refrain from further escalation. She emphasized that the US is also encouraging other global leaders to reach out and promote dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

The outreach is seen as part of the US’s commitment to maintaining stability in South Asia, where historical tensions and recent unrest have heightened concerns of conflict. The Pahalgam attack has significantly worsened diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan in recent days.

US officials reiterated the importance of de-escalation and open communication, underscoring Washington’s broader goal of preventing further deterioration in a region already on edge.
