Meta Launches 'Edits' to Compete with CapCut in Video Creation and Editing

Meta has introduced a new video editing application called ‘Edits,’ designed to rival ByteDance’s popular tool, CapCut. Available for free on both iOS and Android, the app targets content creators looking for powerful video editing features directly on their smartphones.

‘Edits’ offers a wide range of tools, from basic editing functions to advanced AI-powered features such as automatic scene detection and intelligent cropping. These capabilities allow users to enhance their videos with ease, even without advanced technical skills. The app also integrates seamlessly with Meta’s platforms, enabling creators to share their content directly on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.

One of the standout features of ‘Edits’ is its collaboration tools, which let users share video drafts for feedback, making it ideal for teams, brands, or influencers working together on projects. Additionally, the app provides performance analytics, helping creators track viewer engagement and refine their content strategies.

With regulatory concerns surrounding CapCut in the US earlier this year, Meta’s launch of ‘Edits’ positions the company to offer a reliable alternative for creators, especially in the US market. ‘Edits’ also boasts an appealing advantage—exporting videos without watermarks, unlike CapCut’s free version, which adds watermarks to videos.
