Lahore’s Rs. 9 Billion Route 47 Project Completed at Kalma Chowk, Paving Way for High-Tech CBD Hub
LAHORE – The Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (CBD Punjab) has successfully completed the construction of Route 47, a state-of-the-art 4.5-kilometre road that now serves as the main artery of Pakistan’s first high-rise commercial hub at Kalma Chowk.
The massive infrastructure project—developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 9 billion—is a key component of the CBD Lahore development, built on the former site of Walton Airport.

Strategic Connectivity and Modern Design
Route 47 connects four major roads: Ferozepur Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Walton Road, and Lahore Ring Road. A standout feature of the project is a 1-kilometre-long flyover that links directly to Walton Road, easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across Lahore’s commercial zones.
“This road is not just a route—it’s the backbone of the Central Business District,” said Imran Amin, CEO of CBD Punjab, while speaking to Urdu News. “It was designed with the future in mind, including pedestrian walkways, cycling lanes, and robust drainage systems to prevent waterlogging.”
Pakistan’s First Power-Generating Road
What makes Route 47 truly unique is its smart infrastructure. Solar panels installed along the footpaths not only provide shade for pedestrians but also generate up to one megawatt of electricity, making it the first road in Pakistan capable of producing power.
The project also includes a modern sewerage system and an underground rainwater harvesting network, which will supply an artificial lake currently under construction near the CBD site.
CBD Nears Full Operational Status
With the completion of Route 47, all roadwork for the Central Business District has officially concluded. Final touches are being added to two multi-story parking plazas, which will help manage traffic and provide essential parking solutions for the growing commercial area.
