Tensions escalated as Hamas launched a rocket barrage at southern Israel late Sunday, retaliating against Israeli Defense Forces’ actions in the occupied territories.

At least ten rockets were fired from Gaza, most intercepted by defense systems, though one hit Ashkelon, injuring at least one person with shrapnel.

Videos showed damaged cars, debris, and sirens amid the darkness. Gazan health officials reported at least 39 deaths from Israeli airstrikes on the same day.

In response, the Israeli military ordered evacuations from parts of Deir Al-Balah in Gaza, later confirming the destruction of the rocket launcher.

Israeli media stated that at least 12 people were injured in the rocket attacks and were treated at Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.

This incident marks a flare-up in violence following a fragile ceasefire agreement, which had temporarily halted fighting and included hostages’ release. However, Israel resumed ground operations in March, blaming the collapse of negotiations. Over 50,000 Palestinians have died since the conflict began in 2023.
