The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) was established in 2008 by Yousaf Raza Gillani who took the advice of President Asif Ali Zardari. The program’s name is a tribute to former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto
BISP operates nationwide through a network of 385 tehsil offices, 33 divisional offices, six regional offices, and its headquarters in Islamabad.

The Benazir Kafaalat Programme, the core initiative of BISP since 2008, is Pakistan’s largest cash transfer program, aiding around 9 million families.
