Punjab CM Directs Strict Action Against Inflation before Ramadan

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed a province-wide crackdown on inflation to maintain price stability and prevent hoarding during Ramadan.

During a high-level meeting with commissioners and deputy commissioners, she emphasized the strict enforcement of government price lists, ensuring their clear display in markets. She also instructed authorities to monitor the supply chain closely to curb artificial price hikes and stockpiling.

The Chief Secretary has been assigned to oversee the initiative, submitting daily reports on food prices and quality. District officials have been directed to regulate flour and bread prices, while the Punjab Food Authority will conduct inspections to uphold food quality standards.

To ensure affordable access to fruits and vegetables, the Chief Minister ordered stringent legal action against price manipulators. She urged traders to act responsibly, highlighting that “Globally, prices decrease during Ramadan; we should follow suit.”

Maryam Nawaz assured the public that Ramadan bazaars will offer essential goods at subsidized rates, and she will personally track food prices via a digital dashboard. She warned that profiteers and hoarders would face strict legal consequences without exception.

The Chief Minister chaired the meeting via video link to ensure direct coordination with officials across Punjab.
