Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, a member of the National Assembly and a key figure in the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has made headlines by becoming the only lawmaker among 314 members to decline her monthly salary. Aseefa, the daughter of former President Asif Ali Zardari and sister of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was elected unopposed from NA-207 last year.
Since assuming office, Aseefa has maintained her decision not to accept any government salary or allowances. In June 2024, just two months after being sworn in, she publicly announced her refusal to draw any form of compensation from her position as an MNA. Her stance has drawn attention to the importance of public service and ethical leadership.

In addition to her political responsibilities, Aseefa has been at the forefront of social and educational initiatives. Last month, in her capacity as the First Lady of Pakistan and Chairperson of the Sindh Peoples Welfare Trust (SPWT), she inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the People’s School. The project is a transformative educational initiative aimed at providing quality education and empowering youth.
The Sindh Peoples Welfare Trust, established by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in 1987, continues to uphold her vision of community upliftment through education and healthcare. Aseefa, alongside Sindh Minister for Health Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho and the SPWT Board of Trustees, including notable figures like Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Abdul Aziz Edhi, laid the foundation for the People’s School in Karachi.
This modern educational institution will offer both primary and secondary education, with state-of-the-art facilities and a focus on holistic learning. The project aims to empower future generations and contribute significantly to Pakistan’s educational landscape, continuing the legacy of Aseefa’s mother, Benazir Bhutto.
