After their lopsided loss to Islamabad United (IU), Babar revealed in a press conference that he had been playing at a strike rate of 160 up to his fifty, but that he had to play the role of an anchor when six wickets came in short succession.
When wickets are falling all around him, the Peshawar Zalmi captain, who made 75 runs off 58 balls in the game against IU, noted that a player cannot strive to boost his strike rate to 200. Instead, he tries to take the game deep.
Babar grinned and replied, “Play with a strike rate of 300?” when a reporter questioned his striking rate.
In response to a query on the significance of innovation in T20 cricket, the right-hander remarked that in contemporary cricket, the significance of various shots is undeniable and the players keep getting better.
But, he continued, a player might raise his strike rate by also playing to his advantages.
According to Babar Azam, he had a strike rate of almost 160 in the first ten overs of the innings but wanted to extend the game after the middle overs saw a sharp decline in wickets.
The PZ captain acknowledged that he was not satisfied with the latter third of his innings because he was unable to complete it as he had hoped.
The match could have been decided by 180 to 200 runs, according to Babar, but Hasan Ali’s spell prevented that from happening.
