Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk at Blair House in Washington, DC, on Thursday during his two-day visit to the United States. The meeting aimed to strengthen the technological collaboration between India and the US, with a focus on space exploration, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development.
Musk, who was accompanied by his three children, including his son X, gifted PM Modi a Starship hexagonal heatshield tile, symbolizing their shared interest in space technology. Discussions also touched on the pending regulatory approval for Starlink’s satellite internet service in India, as Musk sought clearance to expand the service into the Indian market.

PM Modi was joined by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, while Musk had earlier held talks with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. In a post on X, PM Modi expressed his pleasure at meeting Musk and his family, stating that their discussions covered a wide range of topics, including technological innovation, governance, and future cooperation.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) noted that the meeting underscored opportunities to boost collaboration between Indian and US firms in emerging technologies and entrepreneurship. PM Modi’s visit comes at a time when tensions are rising over potential tariff threats by US President Donald Trump, who has named India, China, and Brazil as possible targets for economic sanctions.
Bilateral discussions between Modi and Trump are expected to address these trade concerns, although the full details of the agenda remain undisclosed.
