In a significant move to ensure the safety and well-being of female students, the Punjab government has decided to remove all male professors and teachers from women’s universities across the province. The decision was announced by Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, who emphasized the government’s commitment to preventing harassment and safeguarding students.
Governor Haider, speaking to the media, highlighted that strict punishments would be enforced against individuals involved in harassment at educational institutions. Alongside the removal of male staff, he announced a complete overhaul of the examination system, aiming to protect female students from potential blackmail or misconduct during exams. He stated that all university administrations had been directed to implement these changes promptly.

In an additional development, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, while distributing scholarships as part of the Honhaar Scholarship Programme, revealed that students with more than 65% marks would receive laptops. She also took personal responsibility for the cancer treatment of a female student’s mother, further highlighting the government’s focus on student welfare.
Under the scholarship scheme, 1,947 students from the Gujranwala division will receive financial assistance, with funds totaling Rs89.8 million. Chief Minister Sharif expressed her desire to increase the number of scholarships to 50,000 in the next budget, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting education in the province.
