[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was called before a financial court in the state’s capital about a matter involving illegal funding.
The former premier was summoned to appear before the court on February 28 by Special Judge Rakhshanda Shaheen. The PTI leader’s legal team provided a copy of the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) ruling during the hearing.
The judge has called Mr. Khan in person to attend the case hearing next week in light of the IHC judgement. Imran Khan has a criminal case pending against him that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is looking into after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) uncovered anomalies in the party money in August of last year. Eventually, the ECP forwarded the case to the FIA for additional inquiry.
A division bench of the IHC comprised of Justices Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri rejected the PTI leader’s request on Wednesday for permission to attend the banking court via video link in the funding case. He must appear before Judge Rakhshanda Shaheen on February 28 per the high court’s directive.
In addition, the bench prolonged the restriction on the banking court’s decision-making about the PTI leader’s bail petition. The new development follows the special court’s rejection of Mr. Khan’s request for a physical appearance exemption in the case on February 15.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
