Several key sections of Pakistan’s motorways have been closed due to severe fog, causing significant disruptions to traffic in Punjab. Motorway police confirmed the shutdown of sections of the M2, M11, and M5 motorways to ensure the safety of travelers, as dense fog has drastically reduced visibility in these regions. The affected stretches include Lahore to Hiran Minar on the M2, Sialkot to Lahore on the M11, and Rahim Yar Khan to Rohri on the M5.
Saeed Imran Ahmed, a spokesperson for the motorway police, warned that the fog increases the risk of accidents, particularly when drivers fail to maintain proper lane discipline. He emphasized the importance of following traffic guidelines and being cautious while traveling in such conditions. Motorists have been urged to avoid unnecessary trips, especially during the night and early morning hours, when visibility is at its lowest.

The motorway police recommended traveling between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. when daylight provides better visibility. Drivers are also advised to use fog lights on both the front and rear of their vehicles to enhance safety. Authorities stressed the need to avoid speeding, as it may increase the likelihood of accidents in low-visibility conditions.
The closures are expected to remain in place until the fog clears, with authorities monitoring the situation closely and providing updates. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast cold and dry weather across most of the country, with moderate to dense fog expected to continue affecting Punjab and upper Sindh, causing further travel disruptions.
