The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) announced Pakistan will launch its Indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) Satellite from China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre (JSLC) on January 17.
A SUPARCO spokesperson highlighted that this launch demonstrates the organization’s commitment and expertise in advancing Pakistan’s space technology and innovation.
The EO-1 satellite marks a major milestone in Pakistan’s space program, aiming to improve natural resource management, disaster response, food security, and economic growth through data-driven decisions and sustainable development.
According to the spokesperson, the satellite will support precision agriculture by monitoring crops, managing irrigation, forecasting yields, and strengthening food security efforts.
Previously, in May last year, Pakistan launched its first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT MM1, from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center. Positioned 36,000 kilometers above Earth, PAKSAT MM1 has a 15-year lifespan and features advanced communication technology.
