Fog has caused major disruptions at airports across the UK, including London Gatwick, Heathrow, and Manchester, leading to significant delays and cancellations of flights. The poor visibility caused by the fog has complicated travel plans, particularly as the country is recovering from the busy Christmas holiday rush.
At Gatwick, many flights faced delays of one to three hours, with further disruption expected into the evening. Similarly, Manchester Airport has been affected, with travelers advised to check with airlines for updates due to air traffic restrictions. Heathrow also experienced some cancellations and delays, especially for British Airways flights.

NATS, the UK’s air traffic control service, confirmed that temporary air traffic restrictions were in place at several airports to ensure safety. The fog has led to the need for careful management of air traffic, and NATS is working closely with airports and airlines to minimize delays. According to flight tracking data, numerous outbound flights were canceled, while hundreds of others were delayed, including at airports like Glasgow and Cardiff.
The fog, caused by a slow-moving high-pressure system, has created stagnant conditions across the country. However, the weather is expected to improve over the weekend. Conditions should start clearing by Saturday afternoon, with some sunny spells expected, and clearer skies and reduced fog are anticipated by Sunday, along with rain in parts of Scotland.
