ISLAMABAD – The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a warning regarding the mandatory application for an identity card upon reaching the age of 18, stressing that failure to do so may result in a six-month jail sentence or a heavy fine.
According to Section 9(1) of the NADRA Ordinance 2000, individuals are required to apply for their National Identity Card (NIC) within 90 days of turning 18.

Failure to comply with this regulation can result in penalties under Section 30(e) of the NADRA Ordinance, which includes imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of up to Rs. 50,000, or both.
The National Identity Card (NIC), issued to Pakistani citizens, is a modern blend of state-of-the-art technology and strict business rules to ensure its authenticity and validity. It features a unique 13-digit identification number that is recognized nationwide.
Obtaining an NIC is crucial, as it is required to access various essential services, including applying for a driving license, NTN (National Tax Number), opening a bank account, acquiring a passport, registering a cellular connection, and more. Every citizen of Pakistan, aged 18 and above, is eligible for the National Identity Card.
