Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Faces Display Issues: Anti-Reflective Coating Peeling Off
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, renowned for its stunning display, is now facing an issue that has caught the attention of users. Less than a year after its launch, reports have surfaced that the anti-reflective layer of the display is peeling off in high-use areas, particularly along the edges of the screen and where frequent scrolling occurs.
Rising Complaints
The issue came to light when @xeetechcare, a user on X (formerly Twitter), posted images of his Galaxy S24 Ultra showing peeling along the right edge and visible spots across the screen. He clarified that the device had not been exposed to any external factors like coins or keys, ruling out accidental damage. Despite careful handling, the scuff marks were noticeable, leading other users to share similar complaints, indicating that this might be a widespread problem.
Why Is This Happening?
The cause of the peeling appears to be the softer texture of the anti-reflective coating compared to the glass beneath it. According to Hannes Brecher from Notebookcheck, the coating may not be robust enough to withstand regular use, especially in high-contact areas like the edges and scrolling regions. This results in visible damage more quickly than users might expect.

Samsung’s Silence on the Issue
Despite the growing number of complaints, Samsung has yet to provide an official response. This leaves users uncertain about whether the display damage will be covered under warranty. This is particularly concerning, as Samsung has previously dismissed issues like oleophobic coating wear as natural degradation, which typically isn’t covered by warranty.
What Can Users Do?
Until Samsung addresses the issue, users are advised to handle their displays with care. It’s recommended to clean the screen using only a microfiber cloth and avoid using harsh cleaning solutions, which could worsen the damage.
A screen protector may offer some protection against scratches, but it might also reduce the effectiveness of the anti-reflective coating, forcing users to choose between display protection and visual clarity.
With no official comment yet from Samsung, users are left to manage the issue on their own while hoping for a solution from the company in the near future.
