Punjab Approves Salary Hike for MPAs and Speaker

The Punjab cabinet has approved a substantial increase in the salaries of parliamentarians, pending final approval from the provincial assembly.

According to Punjab government sources, the proposed legislation outlines significant salary hikes for various positions. The monthly salary of Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) will increase to Rs500,000, while the Punjab Assembly Speaker will earn Rs1 million, and the Deputy Speaker’s salary will rise to Rs800,000.

Revised salaries for other positions include:

  • Special assistants and advisors: Rs700,000
  • Parliamentary secretaries: Rs600,000
  • Provincial ministers: Rs1 million

The salary hike proposal was introduced as an ex-agenda item during the cabinet’s recent meeting and was unanimously approved. Implementation will commence once the Punjab Assembly passes the bill and an official notification is issued.
