ISLAMABAD – Renowned journalist Matiullah Jan was granted bail by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in a contentious terrorism-related case that sparked widespread condemnation from journalists and rights groups. The court approved his release on a Rs10,000 surety bond.
Jan’s legal team argued the charges were unfounded and a violation of his right to free speech. Following the decision, Jan called it a step toward justice and highlighted the increasing challenges faced by journalists amidst a crackdown on dissent.
