A fake tax collector, along with complicit police officers and private individuals, has been implicated in a case of extortion involving cigarette transporters in Lahore. According to an FIR filed by Lahore Police, the perpetrators, posing as members of the Inland Revenue Enforcement Network (IREN), targeted trucks on October 31. They conducted unauthorized searches and coerced drivers into paying bribes to avoid further complications.

The group of accused individuals includes an armed Inland Revenue official, three police officers, and other accomplices. The situation came to light after a complaint from the owner of the cargo truck, prompting an investigation by the Inland Revenue department. As a result, one of the tax officials involved was transferred to the Regional Tax Office in Abbottabad.
In response to the incident, the IREN squad has vowed to take stringent action to address and prevent such fraudulent activities in the future.
