WhatsApp to Introduce Vibrant Icons for Enhanced User Experience
Meta’s messaging platform WhatsApp is rolling out a fresh feature aimed at improving user convenience by introducing colorful, themed icons for contacts and group chats. This update will replace the existing plain grey icons with a more visually engaging design, making it easier to identify chats at a glance.
A Visual Refresh for Better Navigation
Currently, WhatsApp uses uniform grey icons for contacts, groups, and communities, especially for users without profile pictures. While this creates a tidy interface, it often makes identifying conversations challenging. The upcoming update, first spotted by WABetaInfo, will replace these icons with vibrant, color-coded themes for each contact and group.

Key Highlights of the Update:
- Distinct Icons: Contacts and groups without profile pictures will now have unique, color-coded icons, inspired by the Android address book’s design.
- Simplified Identification: Users can quickly distinguish between similar names or unnamed chats, improving overall usability.
- Enhanced Group Chats: Themed icons will also apply to group chats and communities, aiding recognition even if groups have similar names or lack a profile picture.
Availability and Rollout
The feature is currently under development but is accessible to beta testers using the latest WhatsApp Android beta version (2.24.24.12), available via the Google Play Store. While no official launch date has been announced, this update is expected to be included in a future public release.
Once widely available, this feature promises to bring a much-needed visual update to WhatsApp, enhancing the app’s aesthetics and making chat navigation more intuitive. Users are eagerly awaiting the official rollout, anticipating a smoother and more colorful chatting experience.
