Pakistan’s nuclear security termed ‘world class’ by DG IAEA

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]According to Rafael Mariano Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Pakistan’s nuclear security is “world-class.” The IAEA DG said Pakistan’s ability to build “new nuclear power plants shows a positive future” for nuclear energy and fulfilling Sustainable Development Goals while addressing a symposium in Islamabad on Thursday (SDGs).

The director general claims that there is substantial political support in Pakistan for new nuclear power plants. Grossi praised Pakistan’s nuclear security and referred to nuclear facility safety procedures as “world-class.” The IAEA director is in Pakistan for a two-day visit to talk about issues pertaining to the Pakistan-IAEA partnership.

During his visit, IAEA chief Grossi met with Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, and foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, to explore cooperation between the two organisations in the fields of nuclear medicine, agriculture, industry, and power production.
