Sindh Halts Salary Payments for Over 1,000 Ghost Teachers

Over a thousand teachers in Sindh have been reported absent from duty, according to a report submitted by the Scrutiny Committee to the provincial education secretary.

The committee was established to investigate the issue of ghost teachers after numerous complaints surfaced. Sources further disclosed that many teachers are on extended leave abroad.

As a result of the findings, the education secretary has directed all district education officers (DEOs) to halt the salaries of these absent teachers immediately, with formal notifications being issued.

Previously, the Sindh education department had dismissed eight ghost teachers who were living abroad but had been receiving salaries for two years. Secretary Akbar Leghari mentioned that taluka education officers are continuing efforts to identify more ghost teachers and promised strict action against them.
