Chinese Investigation Team Arrives in Karachi Post-Airport Attack

KARACHI – A high-level Chinese investigation team arrived in Karachi to inspect the site of the October 6, 2024, suicide attack targeting a Chinese delegation and their security convoy near Jinnah International Airport. The attack resulted in three deaths, including two Chinese nationals, and 16 injuries.

Upon their arrival, Pakistani officials briefed the Chinese team on the investigation’s progress. They explained that enhanced airport security measures prevented the bomber from entering the airport with an explosives-laden vehicle, which was detonated near a traffic signal outside. The Chinese team examined the evidence and conducted their own assessment, gathering crucial data for their investigation.

Pakistani authorities identified the suicide bomber, Shah Fahad, through fingerprint analysis of remains found at the scene. Investigators are now awaiting forensic results on the explosive samples while expanding their probe using geo-fencing and call records. The Baloch Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade claimed responsibility for the attack, and the Counter-Terrorism Department has filed a case against the group’s leaders and facilitators. The incident has garnered international attention, highlighting the strong ties between Pakistan and China, particularly in safeguarding Chinese nationals involved in joint projects.
