In Girona, Spain, Barcelona secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Girona on Sunday, with Lamine Yamal scoring twice in the first half. This win extended Barcelona’s perfect start to the LaLiga season with five consecutive victories.
Yamal opened the scoring in the 30th minute and netted a second goal in the 37th, giving Barcelona a comfortable lead. Dani Olmo further increased the advantage with a close-range finish just after half-time, and Pedri added a fourth goal in the 64th minute with a simple tap-in. Girona’s Cristhian Stuani scored a consolation goal in the 80th minute, but Barcelona were reduced to 10 men when Ferran Torres was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Yaser Asprilla.

With this win, Barcelona, under coach Hansi Flick, now sits at the top of the LaLiga standings with 15 points, four ahead of Real Madrid and Villarreal. Girona is seventh with seven points.
Pedri highlighted the importance of a strong start to the season, explaining that Flick had emphasized the need to create early distance from their rivals. Barcelona dominated the match, outplaying Girona with relentless high pressing that led to several defensive mistakes. Yamal capitalized on one such error, scoring with a powerful strike after David Lopez lost possession near the box. Yamal’s second goal came from a rebound off a free kick.
Barcelona’s control of the game was evident, as they stifled Girona’s attempts to counter-attack. Olmo added a third goal early in the second half with a fierce shot after a long pass from Jules Kounde. While Girona’s goalkeeper, Paulo Gazzaniga, made several key saves, including efforts from Robert Lewandowski and Yamal, Pedri managed to score a fourth goal by bypassing the goalkeeper after receiving a precise pass from substitute Marc Casado.
Stuani’s goal and Torres’s red card didn’t alter the result, and Barcelona almost scored a fifth when Casado missed a late chance in stoppage time.
Barcelona now shifts their focus to the Champions League as they prepare to face Monaco on Thursday.
