TikTok has introduced a new feature that allows users to create AI-generated versions of their own voices within the app. This innovation lets users voice over their TikTok videos using a digital version of their own voice, expanding beyond the app’s standard voice options.

App researcher Jonah Manzano highlighted that TikTok users can now choose to “Create Your Own AI Voice” in the video voice-over menu. By recording their voice, users can generate an AI version that can be used in future videos, minimizing the need for continuous vocal input. Additionally, this feature allows the AI-generated voice to be translated into other languages, enhancing the app’s accessibility and global reach.

This feature is part of ByteDance’s broader exploration into AI voice replication. Earlier this year, ByteDance developed an AI model called “StreamVoice,” which can replicate a person’s voice with minimal input. This system is capable of mimicking speech in real-time, raising concerns about its potential misuse in creating deepfakes and other deceptive content.

Despite these ethical concerns, TikTok’s move aligns with broader trends in social media, where companies like Meta are also experimenting with AI voice technologies. Meta, for example, is working on enabling creators to develop AI chatbots that can replicate their unique voice and style.
