Heavy rains are anticipated across the country from August 14 to 18

The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for a significant spell of monsoon rains from August 14 to 18, with the heaviest precipitation expected on Independence Day. Authorities have warned rescue agencies to stay alert as severe weather conditions are anticipated across the country. The upcoming weather system, driven by monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal combined with westerly air currents, is expected to bring rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms to various regions.

Regional Forecast:

  • Punjab: Expect heavy rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms in major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sialkot. Severe weather is likely in Murry, Galatia, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Talagang, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, and Gujranwala.
  • Central Punjab: Sheikhupura, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, and Sargodha will experience significant rainfall with strong winds.
  • Southern Punjab: Thundershowers with strong winds are expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Leh.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Buner, Kohat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Haripur will see strong winds and thundershowers. Scattered thundershowers and strong winds are expected in Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Karam, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.
  • Balochistan: Coastal areas including Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Kalat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Mastung, Shirani, Kohlu, Bolan, Harnai, Nasirabad, Jafarabad, and Makran will experience strong winds and scattered thundershowers from the evening of August 15 through August 18.
  • Sindh: Mithi, Sanghar, Matiari, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu will see strong winds and thundershowers from August 15 to 18. Coastal areas are expected to remain cloudy with light rain.
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: Diamer, Astor, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shagar will have intermittent rain with strong winds from August 15 to 18. The risk of landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir is also elevated due to anticipated rainfall.

The Meteorological Department has advised the public to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period.
