Kiran Rao, director of “Laapataa Ladies,” recently discussed her divorce from actor Aamir Khan, describing it as a “very happy divorce.” She emphasized that both families supported their decision to separate, and she feels content with their new arrangement.
Rao noted that the separation, confirmed in July 2021 after 15 years of marriage, was a well-considered choice. “Relationships need to be redefined as we grow,” she said, adding that the support from their families and the presence of her son, Azad, have helped her avoid feelings of loneliness.

Despite the emotional journey of ending their marriage, Rao is confident in their ongoing relationship as co-parents and friends. “We don’t need the paper to say we are married. This partnership will stand the test of time despite the divorce,” she stated.
Rao and Khan initially met during the filming of “Lagaan” 20 years ago, where Rao worked as an assistant director.
