Israeli Airstrike At UN School In Gaza Kills Dozens

In an Israeli airstrike on a UN-run school in central Gaza, numerous casualties were reported, with at least 45 people killed and many others injured, according to authorities. The school, managed by the UNRWA, was serving as shelter for displaced individuals from the Nuseirat refugee camp at the time of the attack.

The Israeli military confirmed the airstrike, stating it targeted a Hamas compound within the school. The IDF claimed to have taken measures to minimize harm, including aerial surveillance and precise intelligence. The strike occurred amidst heightened military activity in central Gaza, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Reports indicate the school, housing approximately 20,000 displaced individuals, was hit by multiple missiles, causing extensive damage. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, already overwhelmed, continues to receive casualties, indicating a worsening situation. Gaza authorities warn of increasing fatalities due to the hospital operating far beyond its capacity.

The attack coincided with meetings in Doha involving American, Egyptian, and Qatari officials to restart negotiations on a new ceasefire and hostage release agreement. These discussions align with a three-phase proposal outlined by US President Joe Biden, labeled as an Israeli plan, which links the release of hostages to a complete ceasefire in Gaza.

Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated on Wednesday that the country’s military offensive in Gaza would not cease for any resumption of talks with Hamas regarding ceasefire and hostage release. He emphasized that negotiations with Hamas would only occur amidst ongoing military action.
