Punjab Announces Registration for 2024 Free Solar Scheme

The Punjab government has announced the registration process for its solar system scheme, with finalized procedures now in place. The initiative, which involves providing free solar systems, will cost Rs10 billion, covering the total installation expenses through provincial funds.

The scheme aims to benefit 50,000 families who each consume up to 100 units of electricity per month. However, those involved in electricity theft or benefiting from other government schemes will be excluded from this program.

Interested individuals can register via SMS using their mobile phones. Eligible applicants must send their electricity bill reference number and Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number via SMS to 8800.

The government will forward the data of registered applicants to the National Telecommunication Corporation, which will verify the details before passing them to the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). The PITB will then compile the final lists of eligible candidates and send them to the district administration.
