[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]PARIS – According to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, France has thrown its support behind Thailand’s endeavor to establish a visa-free arrangement with European countries within the Schengen area. This comes as Thai authorities aim to expedite negotiations for a free trade agreement with the EU and concurrently advocate for visa exemption from European nations on a large scale.

During a media briefing, the Thai premier disclosed that the French president expressed readiness to endorse Thailand’s pursuit of a visa-free agreement with the Schengen area. Mr. Srettha mentioned that Thailand and France could embark on a collaborative effort towards this initiative following the 2024 European Parliament election, scheduled from June 6-9.

Regarding the timeframe, the prime minister indicated that a resolution could potentially be reached by the end of the year. He emphasized to President Macron that a visa-free program would not only enhance opportunities for tourists and businesses but also foster cooperation between Thailand and Schengen countries in various other domains.

In relation to the Thailand-EU free trade negotiations, Mr. Srettha conveyed optimism about achieving a favorable outcome within approximately 18 months, as reported by the Bangkok Post.

It is noteworthy that Thailand is embracing international engagement as it relaxes social distancing measures. The government has recently concluded visa-free agreements with multiple nations, including a permanent arrangement with China commencing this March.

Concerning the Schengen bid, Thailand is also appealing to Germany for support, anticipating that the proposal would streamline travel for Thai citizens across more than two dozen countries within the zone and attract increased European visitors to Thailand.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
